Glyph Residence
Glyph Residence is a build-to-rent development on Pier Street, on the edge of the Perth CBD, combining market-rate, affordable and social housing in a single 29-storey building, one of the first government developments of its kind in Western Australia. The brief carried a specific problem: the stigma attached to social housing. Rather than present the mix as a ‘hybrid model’, the identity reframes it as a community, and takes its cue from the site’s history as the printing precinct for The West Australian and The Sunday Times. The name refers to a purposeful mark set apart from the main typeface, and the logo’s bold letterforms echo both the shapes on the building’s façade and the weight of letterpress type. That idea carries through the rollout: halftone illustrations drawn from the printing tradition, a confident orange held between white and deep purple for contrast across every touchpoint, wayfinding that mirrors type in homage to reversed press letters, and repurposed print blocks used as signage in the foyer.
